Blurring the lines between art forms (aka my pursuit for the past 7 years)

Considering this is my first blog post (and the home page isn’t even made as I’m writing this), I do think there is some personal background due.

When I first started pursuing the creative field more committedly at around 17-19 years old, I selected acting as my primary focus. Why? Admittedly, it was only because among dance, music, acting, and magic, all which I practiced and enjoyed passionately at the time, I simply thought acting was the most “worth it” if I had to pick one (I had to pick a major for college apps after all). I was a young and naive high school kid from North Carolina with little to no experience or knowledge about the entertainment industry or career.

Surprisingly not surprisingly, while studying acting in Los Angeles, acting ended up being only about 20% of my focus. The rest was still dancing, music, magic, and a longer list of creative endeavors added.

It was clear early on — I was inclined towards practicing interdisciplinary arts.

I didn’t exactly understand that term at the time, so when speaking with my peers and writing applications, I always presented myself as someone looking to “blur the lines between art forms.” I wanted to fuse the philosophies of acting and dance together and prove that they are not so different. I wanted to approach culinary arts through the lens of theatrical art by creating a dish with communicative intention using flavor and physical elements. I wanted to create films that incorporated dance, illusory arts, and music with little to no dialogue. Simply put, I desired to push the boundaries of art, hoping to contribute something new to the field of art.

Fast forward, I continue to expand my creative knowledge as an Account Executive of a marketing agency. Turns out, learning how creativity is involved through the lens of business is also very interesting. I’ve learned a lot over the years and hope to continue expanding my skills to practice the type of creativity I sought to explore seven years ago.

Before I started writing this blog post, I spent the whole day cooking and watching cooking videos. I’m fairly new to cooking, but recently I’ve been so into it and exploring new ways to test recipes. I’m an adult now, but I miss the old days (younger days?) when I simply explored everything freely and learned so much that way. This website is to help me get back to that muscle. Especially during these times when learning something new is just every day, I’m looking to get back into exploring again while learning new things. As new trends and social culture forms through significant events, new technology comes out like AI and topological qubits, and the world keeps on moving forward, I want to continue with an exploratory mindset and passion.

I’m a sucker for self-learning/teaching. Maybe I’ll write an article about that.

I’m looking forward to it.
